City of Waleska

Location: 43 miles north of Atlanta
Population: 741
Area: 1.5 square miles Zip code: 30183 Incorporated: 1889

Named for the daughter of an Indian chief, Waleska was a town long before it officially became a city. When the Indians were forced onto the Trail of Tears, she left with her people. A local family (the Reinhardts) changed the settlement’s name in remembrance of her. Lumber and tobacco were the economical tools of the town initially, and today the lumber industry continues to function. Many people are attracted to Waleska because of Reinhardt College, a liberal arts school with a strong reputation for academics. In addition, several top quality communities are being developed in and around the city, with focus on green space and outdoor activities.
